Hey all! I just wanted to share one of our favorite outside toys for babies, toddlers, and above: a sprinkle and splash play mat!
Let me start by saying this family LOVES water. My kids would be in water all day long if they could, I’m sure. They do have moments where they complain about getting wet…when they are already dripping from head to toe. I’m not sure what that’s about.
ANYWAY! Today I want to talk about the Splashin’kids 68″ Sprinkle and Splash Play Mat Pad from amazon.com?&_encoding=UTF8&tag=simplyholly0b-20&linkCode=ur2&linkId=ea526c54e01b70ed13e7ea46ead97141&camp=1789&creative=9325">Amazon HomeAmazon.
We originally had the Banzai 54 inch water play mat since Liam was young. He LOVED it. I usually kept the water low so that it wasn’t in his face, but we would play on the back yard for hours. The perfect water play with only a little bit of actual water. Definitely still supervise small children because the water does pool in the middle, but it’s much less stressful for me as a mom than an actual kiddie pool.
When Wyatt came on the scene he was a huge fan as well, but they both wanted to be in the center. Not enough room boys! So I stuck the 68 inch version from amazon.com/stores/node/18395216011?_encoding=UTF8&field-lbr_brands_browse-bin=Splashin%27kids&ref_=bl_dp_s_web_18395216011&_encoding=UTF8&tag=simplyholly0b-20&linkCode=ur2&linkId=aa73a13b1062672861dbaca17f4108d7&camp=1789&creative=9325">Spashin'kids PagesSplashin’ Kids on their wish list and they received it for their birthday. Yay!
These splash play mats simply attach to your hose and you can control how high and low the water spray goes. After you turn on the faucet the exterior tube fills up with water and then the sprinklers slowly start shooting up and out. Then the center of the mat fills with about 1-3 inches of water. Easy, peasy.
A Couple of Tips:
- Watch your pressure: My main issue is that the boys can and will turn the faucet up and down. I remind them that if it gets too high it could pop. So guys, I’m warning you, if you try to reach the sky with your splash play mat, you might just pop it. It is only thin plastic. I feel like this is the cause for the negative reviews on Amazon, people turning up the pressure too much.
- Cover the Tootsies: We ALWAYS wear water slippers when using these splash play mats. I learned early on that it gets slippery. Toddler noggins smashing onto patios is not something that will make a happy day. Avoid it. You could just use any shoes you don’t mind getting wet. We have these and these.
- Play with the pressure: Like I said before the pressure and go up and down. My boys prefer it to be at about torso or lower level so it doesn’t hit their face or so they can easily kneel down and drink from it.
- Clean it Up: After use make sure to try to drain it out and drape it somewhere to dry out. It can get moldy and gross if you leave it sitting and wet.
- Store it for the Winter: Along the same lines as #4, you might want to clean it and store it inside for the winter. Again, weather and water can create cracks and mold, and general yuck. I had put the 68 inch on the wish list before even looking at my 54 inch this year and when I finally grabbed it to pass on to someone else, the Banzai one was all molded and gross, so I pitched it.
So that is one of our family’s favorite ways to stay cool in the heat and play outside.
