Today I’m going to be talking about the SmileReader Ovulation Test Kit that can be found on Amazon. I was recently chosen by MomsMeet.com to receive the product to try out and I have been pleasantly surprised.
A Little Background…
Now, let me start by saying that I have never used ovulation strips before. In my years of being a mother, and before that, learning about pregnancy and fertility, I have seen many mamas talking about and using them. I simply had never felt the need myself. For years, I have used the charting to track my cycles, prevent pregnancy, and achieve pregnancy. Because of this charting, I already knew when I was ovulating. No need for additional to-dos. Despite that, this was actually a really fun experience.
What’s Inside
I opened up the packaging to find lots of tests. There were 50 ovulation strips, and 20 pregnancy strips in this kit. They looked much like the cheap pregnancy strips I have always purchased for my pregnancies. So there was some familiarity there. There was also a card inside explaining how to download their app. A fun, digital tracking app to keep everything in one place.
About the App and How the System Works
I downloaded the SmileReader Ovulation Test Kit app and explored around a bit. It’s somewhat minimal. It doesn’t really need a lot of bells and whistles really. The icon is a simple, unassuming sideways winking face. You can add a passcode if you wish, but I never bothered. Once opened it asks you for some stats, like how long a typical cycle is for you. You can bypass it if you aren’t sure. Since I chart, I knew. So I plugged in my info and set off.
It told me to test. Of course I already knew I was past ovulation, but I was still tapering down and bit, so it was fun to see the readouts. Once you take the test, there is a timer within the app to set for the test to finish. Then you place the strip on the back of their handy strip packages, to capture a photo with the app. The app reads the strip and tells you the results. All the while charting it by date in your app. It gives you a rating based on the test, and where to go from there.
Since my ovulation had already passed, I waited until the following month to get the full picture of the product. You enter in your period days into the app and it highlights a week where you should test, and tells you to test at least twice a day since your levels can go up or down through the day. The first day you should test, a simple reminder pops up on your phone in the morning and in the evening. You test, you take a photo of it, and it tells you what the results mean. When it registers a peak, an adorable little giggling baby noise and baby drawing pops up on screen. I may have made my husband listen to it a few times.

Final Thoughts
Over all I really enjoyed using this product. I loved being able to look back over the results in the app, and I liked the information the app gave me with the results, despite being pretty minimal. It all went right along with my tracking as well, so I knew it was giving me good readings.
FYI, I did try some non-SmileReader strips to see if they would still read on the back of the packaging, but they did not. The camera wouldn’t pick up the test. So you can’t utilize strips you already have with the app. But, honestly, the under $15 price tag for 50 ovulation strips and 20 pregnancy strips really isn’t bad if you’d like the added app features.
