Some times you need some behind the scenes work to get the shot. I wanted to share a few things behind creating this floral middle school grad photo below!
From Here, to There (Before & After)
The image below shows the original photo as captured and then the final product. The original is a little darker, with less contrast and pop. There wasn’t actually a whole lot of work that needed to be done in post-processing. That’s exactly how I prefer things. Even if I want to get creative, I still want my in-camera work to be well done. It saves me a lot of time and headaches!
Concept
As seen in the image, I wanted a fun, floral shot taking advantage of the blooming flowers. The shoot was perfect timing because they had wilted by the following week. I wanted to nestle her into the foliage, and she was up for the challenge.
The Challange
So just as we both got situated and ready to shoot, the blinding sun came out. Bummer. We relaxed and waited for a few minutes, but it didn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon. So we brought in reinforcements.
I already had a blanket with me for ground shots, so I grabbed mom and had her hold it up just past the left side of the image. The image below shows the landscape version of this setup as it appeared straight out of camera. In post-processing I got rid of the blanket for that version, but it wasn’t an issue in the tightly cropped portrait above.
