I love detox baths. I always have. Warm water, Epsom salt, baking soda, and peace. I always keep Epsom salt and baking soda right next to the tub, and I often have some sort of herbal mix around as well for added benefits/fun.
Detox baths are great for muscle soreness/cramps, releasing toxins, relieving stress, helping skin issues, aiding digestion, and more. All you have to do is slow down and relax in the tub.
Training the Next Generation
Because it was so normal for me, it didn’t take Liam long to join in on the detox fun. When he was first born I used herbs in some of his baths to help him with his healing belly button and sensitive skin. But what really sold him on detox baths was when he became a toddler and discovered the joy of Texas fire ants.
After playfully and furiously rubbing his hands through what he thought was a pile of dirt, he was COVERED in ants. At first my mother in law and I didn’t know what was happening based on his initial reaction. Then we investigated and tag teamed to rip off his shoes and socks and free his hands and feet from what seemed like millions of ants biting him.
Once home, I immediately threw him in a bath of baking soda. I wanted to calm those bites down before they got bad. His hands and feet were full of red bites. It was awful. Thankfully he didn’t seem too bothered by them after…though the new mom in me felt the need to let others know it WASN’T hand, foot, and mouth!
Sometime after that incident, I added some Epsom salt to a bath for fun and to give him some magnesium for sleep, digestion, and general supplementation since magnesium is such a powerhouse and so many people are depleted. Eventually he started “demanding” add ins for all of his baths. He wanted to pour them in and swoosh them around. I wasn’t going to complain.
Continuing On
Now that Wyatt is here, he joins in on the fun and splashes around merrily with his brother. I have started including bentonite clay from time to time to further help the detox process, especially if either of them is sick or having runny noses. Liam still wants to add in everything himself and mix it into the tub. He’s such a big helper. I will never complain when they jump on my “hippy-dippy flower child” habits…as my husband likes to call them.
