Hi! I’m Holly!
In the beginning…
I was born in 1986 in Merriam, Kansas (insert Wizard of Oz Joke), named after a character from Guiding Light (thanks mom!), and the baby of three kids.
Growing up…
I grew up in what my friends called “the boonies,” but it was really just a slightly more out of the way suburb. I spent a lot of time outside in the dirt. One of my favorite memories as a kid was playing on a giant dirt mound at my neighbor/best friend’s house. We still talk about that thing. It’s not a huge surprise that I still love being outside and in the dirt!
A Love of Photography…
I started taking photos when I was in middle school. In high school I jumped on the photography band wagon in school. I loved it so much that I arranged my Senior year schedule to include four hours of darkroom time. I attempted to go another route in college, but ultimately was pulled back to photography. I went on to get a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts with a concentration in Photography. I’ve been shooting, and evolving my work ever since.
My style is a mix of lifestyle/candid and posed images. I love to direct a bit, but ultimately love to capture people simply being themselves. I personally don’t think that a great portrait requires a face, or someone looking into the camera. I definitely capture the traditional portrait images, but love to fill in the gaps and capture life with a more candid approach.
The Phases of Life…
I went on to marry my “college sweetheart,” Joey. We moved multiple times, had two little boys and a little girl along the way, and are now settling into life back “home” in Kansas. Kansas is where our hearts are, and now, also most of our immediate family.
In a Nutshell…
I am a wife, mother, photographer, crafter, dreamer, Christ follower, and an introvert. That last one means I’m great at being awkward! It also means I’m suppose to be good at expressing myself in written word. I’ll let you decide if that is the truth.
